Facebook is one of the most popular social networking websites and easy features such as the like button and share button have made this website user friendly. Google+ (or Google Plus) is another social networking website that has been launched recently and while you may have heard that Google Plus may not be the place to be, we are going to tell you otherwise.
In the past Google Plus has not been as popular as Facebook; however according to one analyst all this is going to change very soon. Recently Google has recorded its strongest month and statistics indicate that by December 2012 Google may have as many as 400 million users.
Experian Hitwise sent out a tweet recently stating that Google’s social networking website traffic has increased significantly in December and also has significantly doubled its traffic in just one month. According to Experian Hitwise, the total visits from US users are more than 49 million as of December 2012 which is a 55% increase from November’s statistics.
Last Friday, Experian Hitwise also tweeted that the visits from US users have grown significantly eight out of the nine previous weeks.
At this point of time, Google Plus has refused to comment however, another analyst Paul Allen who is the founder of the website Ancestry told the Daily Mail that Google Plus has left Facebook behind when Google surpassed the 62 million members target. Paul Allen also stated that 25% of these users signed up for Google Plus in the month of December alone.
This growth rate of Google Plus is considered to be significant since Facebook took a full four years to pass the 60 million members mark after being launched where as Google Plus reached this mark in a very short time. Allen Paul also stated that he expects Google Plus to reach the 400 million mark by December 2012. At this point of time, Facebook has over 800 million users that actively use this popular social networking website.
Reasons behind Google’s success
One may wonder how Google Plus managed to get so many members in a short period of time. While there are many reasons how this was done, one of the important reasons is the strong sales of Android Phones that have allowed users to access Google Plus with ease while on the move. Statistics indicate that over 700,000 Android smart phones are purchased on a daily basis. It should also be noted that Google has integrated its Android phones with Google Plus hence this is another reason for the jump in numbers.
Facebook has over 800 million active users and has been the preferred social networking website in the past however; Google Plus is picking up pace especially due to the jump in numbers in December 2011. While the jury is still deciding which social networking website will be more popular in the near future, we would like to hear your opinions and know which website you prefer.
Will Facebook go the way of Hi5, WAYN & MySpace? Only time will tell.
