Although iPhone 4 and 4S is still being sold in many shops worldwide, people all over the world are anxious to purchase Apple iPhone 5 that will be released soon. With the victory over Samsung and other brands of smart phones, Apple is ready for the much touted iPhone’s release. According to a survey conducted by William Power of Robert W. Baird & Co., Apple has the power to sell over 50 million of these new iPhones in US alone.
While rumours predict that this iPhone will be available to purchase in October 2012, a video and a few pictures showing the highlights of this phone have already been leaked out. The 6 potential features of the iPhone 5 are a metal body, a larger screen, single touch screen glass, rearranged plugs with smaller dock ports, 4G LTE and iWallet.
The new metal body
The new and improved iPhone will have a metal body states Christina Bonnington who works at tech magazine Wired. This metal body will be composed of various metals such as copper, titanium, zirconium and nickel. The name given to this combination of metals is known as “liquid metal” since it can be poured into a mold to create very thin parts.
When hardened, liquid metal is a very strong substance that has high resistance to both scratching and denting. While this metal has a good strength to weight ratio, it is not considered as a good conductor for radio frequencies. However, Ed Oswald from PC World believes that we might not have to worry about this problem since some photos of the new phone indicate that aluminium backs may be used on the phones which should solve this problem.
Since this two tone metal will be covering 80 percent of the phone, this previously fragile device will become a little less prone to getting shattered.
The new large screen
A large screen of 4.6 inches can be expected on the new iPhone 5. According to Reuters Apple has already contacted suppliers to place orders. Although a 4.6 inch screen phone sounds ideal since the current screen of the iPhone 4 is only 3.5 inches, many experts believe that such a large screen may not be realistic. This being said, if indeed Apple does put a large screen then this will be beneficial while using many applications installed on the device.
New iPhone glass
iPhone 4 uses two separate layers of glass for the touch screen to get the desired effect. The first layer is a touch sensor layer, the second layer is the LCD display layer and these two layers are placed on top of one another. According to Josh Ong who is an Apple insider, Apple may be switching to a new type of in cell touch panels for the iPhone 5 in order to consolidate space. This new in cell touch panel will integrated the required touch sensors into the single LCD screen which will make the battery last longer. In addition, this change will improve the quality of pictures and videos displayed on the phone.
According to says Mark Gurman from 9 to 5 Mac, Apple plans to rearrange the plugs on the phone by moving the earphone jack to the bottom. In addition, this device will be able to charge using a smaller dock connector. John Biggs from Tech Crunch has confirmed that Apple will be using a 19 port pin instead of a 30 port pin. According to Oswald from PC World this may be a challenging task since fans and users will have to collect new accessories for the new iPhone.
Apple will be packing the new iPhone 5 with 4G LTE. Although this has already been introduced on the new iPad, David Smith from International Business Times believes that this was simply a practice run for the iPhone 5. A larger battery may also be put in to support the 4G LTE since it tends to consume a lot of battery power in no time.
The “iWallet” is said to be implemented into the iPhone 5 and on March 6, Apple won the patent for this technology that allows users to have complete control over all their financial information. This unique technology is said to make use of Near Field Communication to make card payments and this technology is said to make life a lot easier for credit card holders. To use this technology, the user has to hold the hand phone close to a payment console which in effect turns the iPhone 5 into an easy to use digital wallet.
